Maj Dolly Hutagalung/Flight 13 ACSC AY24/LC-602
Slide-1
Good morning, L&G. On this beautiful day, allow me to
deliver my commander’s call during my next command in 105 Training SQ. I am Maj
Dolly Hutagalung, and my callsign is Dompak.
Slide-2
For the overview, I will start with my family and military
background, followed by my Leadership Philosophy, and then finish with some of
my expectations during my command.
Side-3
Start with my family background. I come from the Batak tribe living in North Sumatra province, near Toba Lake, the biggest volcanic lake in the world. I am the youngest of three siblings and also the tallest. This is my lovely family, my wife, Bella, my daughter, Hafiza, and my son, Kaldera.
Slide-4
Then, my flying background (six different platforms, with a
total of 2600 flying hours). I learned how to fly the Bravo and Charlie
aircraft during flying school. After that, I served in SQ7, accomplished the
transition program with the Soloy, and continued the conversion program with
the Colibri helicopter. I also flew the Grob and Wongbee aircraft at a flight
instructor school before returning to my helicopter.
Slide-5
My military background. I graduated from the Air Force
Academy in 2008 and graduated from flying school in 2010. And in 2017, I got
the opportunity to participate in SOS education. I am a Centurion (strength and
honor). In 2019, I attended flight instructor school. Eventually, in 2023, I returned
to Air University for ACSC education.
Slide-6
L&G, after serving for 16 years in the Air Force, I
finally found the leadership philosophy that best suited me; at least until
now, there are Family, Duty, and Faith.
Slide-7
First is FAMILY.
§ Start
from our own family. From my perspective, people who pass basic and
advanced military education and have experience should be able to manage
themselves as humans and soldiers. Therefore, I began to focus on the family.
Before going to work, ensure everything for you and your family is
in the best condition. If there are any issues, don't hesitate to report them so
they can be addressed immediately. I believe that if we start the day with nice
familial circumstances, soldiers' performance will be better.
§ Team Building.
I want to build a conducive work environment where everyone is
responsible for their respective fields of work. The diversity of backgrounds
and experiences will influence the airmen's performance for sure. So, in
carrying out our tasks, let us support each other and fill each weakness. Let
us build a solid team to complete the SQ's primary objectives.
§ Aside from being a strong team, remember we
are a family, including officers and airmen. So please treat your coworkers as
a family with affection and respect. So, even if we no longer serve this unit.
We will always be a part of the big family.
Slide-8
The second is DUTY.
§ Professional: As soldiers, we should be professional in our
duty. Be the best pilot in this SQ, the top technician, and the same goes for
other sections. Your colleagues are not rivals but rather friends who will help
you develop. Always be disciplined and obey the rules.
§ To be a professional, you should have high
integrity. Again, always try to do your best whenever and wherever you are.
Never become complacent; today must be better than yesterday, and tomorrow must
be better than today.
§ Mission first, but safety always. 105 training
SQ must have a strong safety culture. Safety is a collective responsibility,
not an individual or sectional. If a potential incident occurs, everyone who
knows must immediately report it in accordance with the procedure, and every
report must be taken seriously.
Slide-9
Third is FAITH.
§ In God,
we believe. I order all members to worship according to their own
religions and beliefs. Don't let your job force you to skip worship. I advocate
mutual respect among religions, tribes, and ethnicities. Make differences as a tool
to unite. I believe there is no difficult task if God makes it easy for us.
§ Service
is part of worship. As humans and
religious people, we believe that what we plant is what we will harvest.
Kindness will produce good results. Therefore, we should intend every task for
goodness so that goodness will return to us in this world and become charity in
the afterlife.
Slide-10
Furthermore, my expectations. It continues to improve and
become better airmen.
Slide-11
And this is the detail. As a commander, I would expect to:
1.
Every member has a value. Even the lowest
airmen are part of the system. As a technician, you have an important role in
maintaining aircraft readiness. As flight instructors, we not only teach
students how to fly but also recognize that they will be the next successors to
our leadership in the Air Force.
2.
Never underestimate small things. Always begin
with it, and never delay work. If we overlook this minor detail, it means we
should be prepared for major problems.
3.
We should appropriately employ the chain of
command. Every level of leadership has its own set of duties and
responsibilities. And optimize that to get constructive feedback.
4. Lastly, I want to be remembered not only as the commander of
SQ but also as Dolly Hutagalung, with my strengths and weaknesses. Let's build long-lasting
relationships as a family.
Slide-12
L & G. That is the end of my commander's call. All the members, please remember that we are a family and are always proud to be in the Air Force.
