My
country Indonesia is the example for others in this world about unity in
diversities. How is this possible? I will start from Indonesian geographical
position in world. What factors make Indonesia diverse? How does Indonesia resolve
diversities and use these for unity?
Indonesian geographical position is so strategic; between Asia and Australia continents, and between Indian and Pacific oceans. Indonesia can be passed by international sea commerce through the Malaka strain, this strait connects economic matters in the Middle East to America continent. Indonesia also lia on the Equator line, this makes Indonesia have dry and rainy seasons and this is the primary reason why Indonesian land is very fertile. Because of these things, Indonesian position is very important in world perspective.
Furthermore,
Indonesia has diversities in many sectors. Indonesia is an archipelago country,
we have more than 17.000 islands and 70% of our territory is a sea. We have the
most amount of tribes in the world, more than 1.100 tribes with more than 700
tribal languages. Indonesia is also the 4th largest population in the world
after; China, India and US.
How
can Indonesia resolve these big diversities problems? The answers are even more
we have so many diversities, we realize we also have some similarity. Our sense
of unity starts from colonial era, when Indonesia had been colonized by Holland,
England and Japan more than 350 years ago. We learned that although we are diverse,
we must unite to fight colonialism and gain independence. We believe that, unity
can defeat colonialism, so we create some similarity such as; unity in language
(Bahasa Indonesia), unity in nation (Indonesian Nation) and unity in purpose
(Independence of Indonesia). Eventually, in 1945 we gained Independence and
until now we keep our nation become Unity in Diversities (Bhineka Tunggal Ika).
